With the taste of Authentic Emirati Cuisine, Al Fanar Restaurant & Cafe will revive the memories of Dubai
A restaurant known for its iconic showcasing of UAE Bedouin culture and authentic Emirati cuisine has opened its first European branch.
Located in London, Al-Fanar restaurant and cafe is aiming to “revive the memories of Dubai when it was a small town on the shore of the Arabian Gulf”.
With five branches in UAE and one in the capital of Saudi Arabia, they’ve opened in the plush suburb of Kensington’s Gloucester Road.
With sufficient seating in beautifully decorated surroundings that capture the intricate architectural features of the region, Al-Fanar offers an extensive menu of exciting dishes.
Despite opening at noon, there’s breakfast items which revolves around what you’ll find in the UAE with breads like kaqaq, Khameer, and Chehab, served with cheese, date syrup or eggs.
There’s also the influence of the regions sizeable migrant work force, with Keema – minced beef with peas served with paratha, and Laham Nashef – a mutton curry dish. In addition, there’s the Emirati pancake Chebab, as well as the traditional tomato-based Shakshooka.
The mains appear to reflect the harsh desert conditions that have influenced the traditional dishes there of meat, grain and dairy, with a lot of fish too, and plenty of stews (Saloona). As such, there’s meat or chicken stew, alongside dishes that contain Arabic breads simmered in meat and vegetables.
And with plenty of attractive fish dishes to keep you busy, you might also want to try the well known Haress – a traditional dish made of wheat and meat. For dessert, you have your Asidat Al Tamor date pudding, Tapioca pudding, golden crispy fried dough balls coated with date syrup called Leqaimat, as well as some date-oriented cakes.
